Southeast Regional Local Emergency Planning Committee
Dear Community Members,
As part of our ongoing commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all residents, we want to provide an overview of the critical role played by your Southeast Regional Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC). The LEPC is dedicated to preparing for and responding to any hazardous materials emergencies that may occur within our community. Here’s how we serve you:
- Promoting Community Awareness: The LEPC actively works to educate our community about the potential risks and the nature of hazardous materials emergencies. Understanding the types of hazardous materials that are handled and transported within and near our community is essential for our collective safety. The committee organizes informational sessions, workshops, and distributes materials to ensure everyone is well-informed about these risks.
- Advising on Emergency Actions: It’s crucial that all community members know what to do before, during, and after a hazardous materials incident. The LEPC provides guidance on:
- Preparation: How to prepare an emergency plan for your family or business, including evacuation routes and emergency kit essentials.
- Response: What steps to take during an emergency, such as sheltering-in-place or evacuation procedures specific to the type of hazardous material involved.
- Recovery: Best practices for returning to normalcy after an incident, including how to safely re-enter affected areas and where to find assistance for recovery efforts.
Our goal is to empower every resident with the knowledge and tools needed to protect themselves and their loved ones in the event of a hazardous materials emergency. We encourage you to participate in our upcoming community engagement events, which are great opportunities to learn more and get involved in our collective safety efforts.
